Restrict mysql to listen only on localhost (CentOS)

In /etc/my.cnf config file, under the [mysqld] line, add:

bind-address = 127.0.0.1

    this is only for localhost on IPv4. On IPv6 mysql will still listen an all configured IPv6 ip addresses
